Imagine meeting the love of your life, planning a future together, exchanging vows… only to discover on your wedding night that your partner has no legs—and they never told you. Sounds like the plot of a Nollywood drama, right? But this is the real-life story of Borah Muteteri and her husband, Ndayisenga Jean De Dieu, aka Jado—and it’s both heart-wrenching and heartwarming.
The Wedding Night Revelation That Shocked Everyone
Borah met Jado two years before their wedding. From the start, their relationship was built on strong values—they both agreed to stay celibate until marriage. Because of that, Borah never got to see her husband fully undressed. She thought his slow movements were due to an old injury or a temporary fracture.
So you can imagine her shock on their wedding night when she discovered that her husband had no legs.
But instead of running away, she stayed. And what she said afterward will melt even the coldest hearts:
“After showing me who he really was, it gave me a million more reasons to love him.”
Why He Kept It a Secret
Jado had a painful reason for hiding his disability. He was terrified of being abandoned. Born with legs, he lost both after a bomb blast while fleeing conflict in Congo. The blast left him in a coma for two months. When he woke up, one leg was gone. Later, he lost the second.
But the tragedies didn’t end there.
In one heartbreaking year, he lost his younger brother, his newborn sibling, his mother (who died shortly after giving birth), and his father. Left with only a sister who was three years older, Jado felt completely alone.
His condition led to rejection by relatives, and at one point, he even considered suicide.
A Turnaround Fueled by Love and Music
But life had a surprise in store.
Jado eventually received free prosthetics and therapy that helped him regain some independence. He discovered a passion for singing—especially songs about people living with disabilities. His life changed when he participated in a singing competition for PWDs (persons with disabilities). That’s where he met Borah.
They connected instantly, exchanged numbers, and after five months of daily conversations, love bloomed. Jado wanted to propose, but fear held him back. He couldn’t find the courage to tell Borah about his disability, scared she might leave him.
So, he kept it hidden until after the wedding.
“I Love Him, Not His Legs.”
Surprisingly, when Borah found out, her love didn’t fade—it deepened.
She said the revelation gave her “superpowers,” because now she knew she had to be stronger—for both of them.
Friends and family suggested she leave him for someone richer, someone “whole.” But Borah didn’t budge.
“I fell in love with his heart, not his legs,” she said boldly.
Today, they live as an inspiration to others, proving that real love isn’t about physical perfection—it’s about emotional connection, trust, and standing by each other even in the most unexpected moments.
True Love Still Exists—Even Online
While this story might make you side-eye your dating app matches a little more carefully, it also reminds us of the power of honesty, healing, and commitment. In a world filled with fake love and “situationships,” Jado and Borah’s story is a beautiful reminder that true love does exist.
